We're all pretty good at spotting our strengths. And almost every time, they line up exactly with the parts of the business we love doing. That's a trap. It convinces you that growth only comes from leaning harder into what you love.
There's a time for that. It's when you've got a team around you, or money to pay someone who's actually great at the thing you're not. Totally fair game at that stage.
But early on, building from scratch, there's no budget for that and no one to hand it to. Whatever you're weak at still has to get done, and the thing that actually breaks you through is staying consistent on a basic process for it. Not mastering it. Just showing up on it.
The process makes it manageable. You don't need to be great at marketing. I'm not. But I have to be baseline good at it, or it drags down everything else we're actually strong at.
That's the real job early on: get every weak spot to neutral. You're not trying to win there. You're trying to make sure it stops being the thing that's losing.
