The waste you forgot about is still eating your week

The more conversations I have with companies about automating manual work, the clearer this gets. Some of the biggest time sinks, the real bottlenecks, don't show up in the first five minutes. They take digging. Here's why. When you run the same process long enough, your brain puts it on autopilot. It slides into the subconscious. You stop noticing it. It's just "how we do things." Then somebody sits across from you and asks what actually happens in that part of the business. Suddenly you're saying it out loud. Wait. You spend four hours every week on that? And software could turn it into ten minutes? These aren't hard problems. They're invisible ones. Without a real conversation and a real look at how your business runs day to day, you won't find them. You're focused on the loud stuff: payroll, new clients, lead gen, sales. That matters. But meanwhile a whole chunk of the business is humming along in the background, quietly burning a fourth of your week. It doesn't feel that bad because you've gotten used to it. That doesn't mean it isn't expensive. I've had this click more and more lately. The work you hate the most is often the work you've stopped seeing. The fix usually starts with saying the process out loud to someone who isn't living inside it.
